About Me

From childhood I have written and read profusely, even when money and time were tight, four books a week from the library as a child and teenager, whatever I could afford in charity shops as a young adult and mother, resulting in some interesting reads I may not otherwise have chosen, taking whatever snatched time I could find.

Over the years I have also studied literature and poetry through the WEA and Open University and more recently, the last 5 years, attended writing courses and groups and even more recently even read some of my poems and prose at Spoken Word events.

But always that nagging feeling that my work wasn't good enough to share, however several things have transpired to change my mind and persuade me to take the plunge, last year my good friend Jan set up a memoir blog about her life as an artist and tutor and a thoroughly good read it is, https://jankynart.uk/
More recently another friend April from writing group has had the courage to start posting her Poems on social media and her blog https://moonstonebrightpoetry.com/ and local poet Seb Riley posted a piece about the importance of sharing one's writing, https://thanetwriters.com/essay/development/why-writers-need-to-share-more-widely/ it was an interesting and thought provoking read, I had to admit to myself that it was fear that was stopping me, that I felt all those things Seb said, uncomfortable, vulnerable and exposed, that I was revealing myself, but isn't that what all writers do? especially memoir, so hats of to Jan for having the courage to publish hers.
Lastly but very much not least, the excellent guidance, inspiration and encouragement of writing tutor Gary Studley.
